In the Midst of Puccini

In the Midst of Puccini strives to capture the fluidity of the music and intensity of the performance at Opera Holland Park during a Puccini production.

I collaborated with Conductor Matthew Kofi Waldren, a rising star in the UK Opera Industry, and Opera Holland Park, alongside the City of London Sinfonia, the Chorus of Opera Holland Park and the cast of Puccini’s ‘La Rondine’. Drawings were captured from life during rehearsals for Puccini’s late masterpiece which opened at Opera Holland Park in June 2017. After that I grouped individual drawings into a composition that captured the fluidity of the music and intensity of the performance. I worked in ink using a bespoke calligraphy nib. This tool delivers expressive marks which varies at the angle it touches the paper.
